What does a status saver actually do?
A status saver does not need to log in to somebody else's account. On supported Android devices, status photos and videos that are already available to the user can exist inside an app's media storage. A status-saving utility helps the user choose that folder, view supported media and create a separate saved copy.
Media browsing
Once a supported status folder is authorised, available images and videos can be displayed in a simple gallery. The original status file is not edited merely because it is shown inside the app.
Saving a copy
Saving creates a separate copy in user-accessible device storage. This means a saved item can remain available even after the temporary source status is no longer shown in the original messaging application.
Favourites
Favourites are useful when the user wants quick access to an item without treating the favourite action as the same thing as a normal gallery download. Saved media and favourites can therefore serve different purposes.
Sharing
Android's standard share sheet lets the user choose a compatible destination app. Status Saver does not provide a public social feed or an in-app messaging network of its own.
Private storage
Media that needs extra privacy can be kept separately using Private Vault. App Lock and supported device biometrics add another layer between private content and casual access to the app.

Why Android asks you to choose a folder
Android has progressively tightened storage permissions to give users more control over which files an app can see. Instead of asking for broad access to every file on the phone, an app can open Android's own folder picker. The user then chooses a folder and Android can remember that permission for future sessions.

Choose a source
Select WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. These sources are kept separate because Android may store their media in different application-specific folders.

Use Android's picker
The folder selection screen belongs to Android. Navigate to the appropriate status media folder and confirm access only to the location you intend to use.

Review available media
The app can then display supported images and videos that are currently available in the authorised location. Filters help separate photos from videos.

Save only what you need
Choose individual media items to save. Keeping unnecessary copies can quickly consume storage, especially when statuses contain large video files.
Privacy first
Your status media does not need to become cloud content.
The core purpose of Status Saver is local media management. The user chooses a folder, views local status media and saves selected copies on the device. The app does not require access to a WhatsApp chat database and does not require unrestricted “All Files Access”.
Folder permission is granted through Android's system
interface rather than hidden background scanning.
Saving a status creates a user-controlled copy; it
does not alter the source status.
Private Vault is intended for media the user chooses
to keep inside protected app storage.
App Lock can use a PIN and supported device biometric
authentication for additional local protection.
Practical guidance
Use saved status media responsibly
The fact that media is technically available to save does not automatically give permission to republish it. Privacy, copyright and the expectations of the original sender still matter.
Ask before reposting
If a status contains somebody else's photo, video, artwork, business material or personal information, obtain permission before redistributing it beyond the context in which it was originally shared.
Watch your storage
Video statuses can be large. Review Saved items periodically, remove copies you no longer need and use storage management tools to keep temporary files and cached previews under control.
Protect sensitive media
Device screen locks, app-level PIN protection and biometrics are useful layers, but users should still avoid keeping unnecessary sensitive media on a shared or poorly secured phone.
Troubleshooting
Common reasons status media does not appear
A blank status gallery does not always mean something is broken. Android permissions, the selected folder, source-app behaviour and temporary media availability can all affect what is visible.
Wrong folder selected
Reconnect the source and make sure the status media folder, rather than a neighbouring parent or unrelated media folder, is the location that Android has authorised.
Status is no longer available
Status content is temporary by design. If the source app no longer has the media available locally, a status saver cannot recreate a file that is no longer present on the device.
Refresh after viewing statuses
If new media has appeared in the source app, return to Status Saver and refresh the connected source. This helps the gallery re-read the currently available files.
WhatsApp Business is separate
WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business are treated as separate sources. Connecting one does not automatically authorise the media folder used by the other application.
Permission was removed
Folder permission can be revoked by the user or affected after storage changes. If a previously connected source stops working, reconnecting it through Android's picker can restore access.
