Three types of Android storage to understand

If you can see a photo in a gallery but not in Status Saver, the files may be in different storage locations. These three Android storage models help explain why.

App-private storage

Applications can keep their own internal files separately from normal shared media. This can be useful for settings, cached information and content that should not appear in ordinary gallery applications.

Shared media

Photos and videos intended for normal user access can be placed into Android's shared media collections using platform-supported storage mechanisms such as MediaStore.

User-selected folders

When an application needs access to a particular document location, Android's Storage Access Framework can let the user select and authorise that location directly.

Status Media

A simple checklist before a status disappears

A status that was visible earlier may no longer be present in local storage. To avoid losing a status you are permitted to keep, use the following checklist while it is still available.

View the status

Open the photo or video in WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. Viewing may make a local copy available, but availability depends on the source app and device.

Connect the right source

Make sure Status Saver is connected to the appropriate WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business source.

Save what matters

Use the Save action while the media is still available. Check the Saved section to confirm that a separate copy was created before relying on it.

Manage storage

Delete saved files you no longer need, especially large videos that can consume storage quickly.

Responsible Use

Saving media does not transfer ownership

Status photos and videos can contain personal images, copyrighted material, business information or content intended only for a limited audience.

Technical access to a media file should not be confused with legal or personal permission to republish that content.

Ask before reposting somebody else's personal media.

Respect copyright and intellectual property.

Avoid redistributing sensitive personal information.

Remove stored copies when they are no longer needed.
